Chapter 1: The Featured Artwork
The Golden Portal, Acrylic, 20” X 30”
Every piece of art begins with a question. For this specific work, I wanted to explore how we find hope when our surroundings feel overwhelming or complex. Often, our daily environments feel heavy with distraction. As I layered the deep, dark royal blues and intense pink brushwork on this canvas, my goal was to frame a sanctuary. The golden gateway in the center isn’t just a shape—it is a visual reminder that light and clarity are always waiting to break through if we give ourselves the space to look for them. I built the thick, tactile borders around that center light to draw your eye inward, offering you a quiet place to pause and breathe whenever you look at it.”

Chapter 2: On the Easel
Since January, I have set an intentional goal in the studio: focusing relentlessly on the foundational elements that separate good art from great art. Instead of rushing to finish large canvases, I’ve covered my easel with value and tonal studies.
I have been deep in the study of my watercolor heroes—the Australian master Tony Smibert and his historic mentor, J.M.W. Turner. Immersing myself in Smibert’s texts has challenged me to master how light shifts across raw form. This study is a raw look at that practice. It reminds me that before you can create a masterpiece the world has never seen, you have to master the quiet language of tone and structure.

Chapter 3: Studio Conversations
Let’s connect. I create these works to start a dialogue, not a monologue.
This week’s question for you:
What emotion do you want your living space to give you the most?
